Photonics West includes North America's largest exhibition covering light-driven technologies and is the preferred event in the photonics industry for product launches. More than 80% of the new larger exhibition space is already sold, with more companies signed up than in past years and larger space booked on average.
The meeting is also the site of top international photonics conferences. Abstracts are being accepted through 13 July for four symposia:
* Biomedical Optics
* Lasers and Applications
* MOEMS-MEMS/Micro- and Nanofabrication
* Optoelectronic Materials, Devices, and Applications.
See the event website for more information: spie.org/photonics-west.xml.
The 2009 Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation, cosponsored by SPIE and Laurin Publishing, will be awarded at Photonics West. The awards were introduced in 2008 to recognize the best in innovative technology in optics and photonics. A panel of independent expert judges will select the winners. Applications are being accepted through 22 September, in categories including:
* Analytical, Test and Measurement
* Detectors, Sensing and Imaging
* Other Light Sources
* Photonics Systems
* Photonics Processes
* Sustainable/Green Technology
* Life Sciences

Photonics West 2010 also will host celebrations, displays, and featured speakers marking the 50th anniversary of the first demonstration of a working laser and recognizing the importance of laser technology. The events in San Francisco will be part of SPIE's "Advancing the Laser" tribute ongoing through the May 2010 anniversary date. Laser Focus World magazine also is a sponsor with SPIE of several laser tribute events and activities.
