Tokyo, Japan & Boise, Idaho (USA) - February 26, 2007 - Nanoteco Corporation and SemiLEDs Corporation announced today a major breakthrough in making LED as a viable solution to the lighting markets. A single SemiLEDs' MvpLEDTM 40mil chip, packaged with proprietary Nanoteco phosphor technology, and operating at 350 mA, can produce in excess of 110 lumen, or a luminous efficacy of over 100 lumen per watt for 6000K white color, which is more than 50% brighter than the currently available products in the market. "Our phosphor technology can minimize the internal reflection of the light emitted from the LED chips and maximize the conversion efficiency of phosphor. In particular, this technology is well suited to surface emitting LEDs such as SemiLEDs' MvpLEDTM," said Kazuo Uchida, CTO of Nanoteco Corporation. "By mass-producing LED chips, together with Nanoteco's phosphor, capable of producing over 110 lumen per watt, we have achieved the 100 lumen / watt benchmark, known to be the efficacy benchmark that would enable the wild adoption of LED in the general lighting market" said Trung Doan, CEO of SemiLEDs.
