CLEVELAND —June 2, 2008— A tie to NASCAR legend Richard Petty and a donation for children facing chronic illness is at the center of the first commercial installation of Kichler’s new outdoor LED accent lights. With the help of Smith Turf & Irrigation, a North Carolina-based distributor of landscape lighting, Kichler recently donated 67 LED accent lights and under-water fixtures to help light a new outdoor waterfall at Victory Junction Gang Camp, a facility that provides exciting and empowering camping experiences for children with chronic illnesses.
The camp was founded by Petty’s son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Pattie Petty, in honor of their son, Adam, who lost his life in a car accident during racing practice eight years ago.
The $16,000 product donation from Kichler lights a 50’ tall, 130’ long waterfall, which serves as a relaxing focal point among a scenic lake on the camp’s 72 acres in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina. Kichler’s LED lights offer considerable energy-savings for the camp, as the fixtures use 75% less electricity than their incandescent counterparts and last, on average, 20 years. In addition, the Kichler fixtures allow the falls to be lit under a warm, white light for optimal illumination.
“We are extremely grateful to Kichler for the company’s contribution in helping us continue to grow and enhance the grounds at Victory Junction Gang Camp,” said Amanda Osborne, director of development, Victory Junction Gang Camp. “The design, build and install of the waterfall and its many components will have a long-lasting impact on the quality and experience for children at the camp.”
Part of the project included a meet-and-greet with Richard Petty and a lighting training seminar for area contractors, which was organized and hosted by Smith Turf & Irrigation. Teams from Smith Turf & Irrigation and Aquascape, Inc.(TM), a Chicago-based manufacturer of outdoor water features, also donated significant time and materials to the design and construction of the falls.
